Taste testing science lesson

In science this week we were looking at our senses.

We have 5 senses:

Sight
Touch
Smell
Hearing
Taste

We focused on taste.

Our task was to try 5 different foods and put them in categories.

We had:

Sour
Sweet
Salty
Bitter
Spicy

We had a little pot of soy sauce, honey, taco sauce, coffee, lemon juice.

The 5 pots!
We all tried the different foods.

When we had tried them we had to write down what we thought went with the sense of taste (lemon juice - sour)
Some of us didn't like the taste.
We were very brave and tried them even when we didn't really want to!

We had such a fun lesson!

Our school council members

Unfortunately the sun was in their eyes but here are our very proud school council members!

Snake skin show and tell

In our class we have a few children who have snakes as pets.

2 people brought in their snake's skin as it had recently shed their skin.

A few people in the class didn't like the snake skin but found it very interesting!

We then measured the snake skin against the tallest child in the class and we found that the snake skin was a lot taller than him!

Homework

In Acorn we have a look at homework every Wednesday.

During assembly on a Friday we look at the work people have done during the week.

This week we have 4 people from Acorn showing their homework.

They are all very proud of their homework and have taken a lot of time on their work.

In Literacy we are reading the book 'The Owl Babies'.

Caitlyn has decided to make some owl babies of our own!

We started this early last week and cannot wait to show everyone what they look like in the end.

The body of the owl was made from a stone. On that stone we stuck brown circles and placed googley-eyes on them.

Next, we are going to stick on the legs. The legs are made from pipe cleaner.

Keep an eye out for the end product!

P.E with Mr Green

Today's lesson we were throwing and catching a ball in a circle. We had to count the amount of times we threw the ball to each other and attempt to beat the other team.

Another task we had to do was to jump over the hurdles, run to the other end of the astroturf then run back again.

We swapped over and it was the other groups turn to throw the ball to each other in a circle.

Group 1 managed to throw the ball to each other 25 times.

Group 2 also managed to score 25 meaning it was a draw.

We all worked as a team!

A plea for newspapers

Our guinea pigs Rosie and Sparkles are in need of newspaper donations for their cage.

We use newspaper a lot when cleaning out the guinea pigs and our supply is now very low.

Please, please, please could you send your old newspapers to us!

Thank you from Acorn class

Karate

 This was our instructor Shaun.

 We had to listen carefully.
 Our warm up included jumping.

We had to put our hands out in front of us with clenched fists and then draw them back into our hips.
 Shaun taught us to block.
Shaun lastly went over what we had learnt that lesson.

We all had so much fun and cannot wait until next week!

Karate

Today is our first Karate martial art lesson at school with Mr Green!

Everyone is very excited about learning a new sport.

Keep an eye out for the photos of our lesson. 😊

Christmas Party! 🎵

On Thursday 14th December we had our school Christmas party!

This event was a joint event with Erpingham.

We walked over to the village hall at lunchtime, we sat around a very long table that was decorated with Christmas crackers.

Our lunch was then brought out to us, it looked delicious! We had turkey, carrots, broccoli, roast potatoes, sausage wrapped in bacon and gravy. It was very yummy. For pudding we had a chocolate cupcake with decorative icing. The icing was Santa's little helper. It looked too good to eat!

After lunch Crazy Corin entertained us with some magic tricks.

He made us all laugh so much!
He tricked us with his magic...

One challenge Crazy Corin set us was to press a button as many times as we could in 1 minute.
It was a lot harder than it sounds...
He made it very competitive by suggesting both schools went against each other.

Mrs Watts and Miss Page got called up and had to have a go... It was very close, but Miss Page won meaning a point for Northrepps!

After a few magic tricks it was time for snack!

Thank you so much to the Friends of Northrepps for providing us with such beautiful food! It was such a lovely afternoon that was filled with fun and laughter!

Sleeping Beauty Norwich Theatre Royal

On Wednesday 13th December the school and pre-school went to Norwich to go and see the panto version of Sleeping Beauty!

The production was at Norwich Theatre Royal, we travelled to Norwich by a big coach (this was rather exciting).

When we got there we had to quickly find our seats as the performance was about to start!

We were all very excited.

During the interval we each had an ice-cream.
Thank you very much to the anonymous person who bought ice-creams for us all.
It was very kind and generous!

The ice-cream was very yummy and kept us going until lunchtime.

Pre-school bought a book that has lots of information about the cast and various games such as snakes and ladders and spot the difference inside.

This is a very good to look at and it is a good reminder of our trip!

The whole school really enjoyed the performance! Thank you to everyone that made it happen.
